Summer 1

This half term we have been finding out all about minibeasts and growing. We had 5 very tiny caterpillars come to stay with us and we watched them slowly grow, become a chrysalis and finally hatch as beautiful butterflies that we released into our garden.

We had a fantastic visit from Our Animal World. We were all very brave and held some minibeasts. We learnt lots about the different bugs we met.

As part of our Power of Reading learning we found out about India. It was where our story was based. We learnt facts about the animals we met in our book, tigers, bears and wolves and at the end of term we got to taste a feast of exotic fruits just like Grandma did in our book. They were delicious!

Hawk and Owl trust

Year 2 had an amazing time at The Hawk and Owl Trust. It supported their science learning around habitats and animals. During the day, the children had the opportunity for pond dipping, building minibeast habitats, sketching wildlife and going on a wildlife walk. The year 2 children all had the best day although a little hot

Time and Tide museum

Year 2 had so much fun during their WW2 day spent at Time and Tide museum. They used pretend bayonets to hit Hitler and learnt how to march and be a Homeguard. Then, they got to spend time in a WW2 shop learning how to ration as a shop keeper by weighing out the products. Finally, they spent time with Mrs Day visiting her house and learning how she makes do and mends!

WW2 stop motion films

The children in year 2 have been really inquisitive when learning about World War 2. They completed a project where they created a background and then props that would move to replicate a WW2 scene. Then, using I-Pads, the children created their own short film using stop motion. Look at some of the amazing examples!

Spring 2

Our Town and Our pets

This half term our learning has focused on the town that we live in, we shared photos of us all in front of buildings and shops around town and used the photos to make a small world town in our tuff tray. Most of us recognised many of the buildings, the toy shop and the sausage roll shop especially!

We then went on to learn about our pets and people who help look after them. We turned our role play area into a vets and were lucky enough to have a visit from some of our class members’ pets. We enjoyed looking at photos of us all with our pets and finding our how we all help to care for them.

Our Power of Reading text this half term was an information book about Diggers! We had a visit from a digger. We were able to sit in the digger and we watched it go up and down and move about on the playground. We learnt the names of the parts of the digger and how it works.

We have enjoyed spotting signs of spring around Nursery and painting spring flowers. We ended our term learning about the Easter Story and trying hot cross buns.

Spaghetti! Spaghetti!

The children are really enjoying exploring poetry this half term. At the moment, they are reading poems about food and creating their own ideas ready to write their own food poems. Look how much fun they had exploring and describing the feel of spaghetti!

Walk to the Pillbox

The year 2 children are really enjoying learning all about WW2. They were excited to take a walk through town to see a real Pillbox near Dereham train station. When they returned to school, they made their very own 3D Pillbox.
