Welcome to our Nursery page…
This page will tell you what we have been learning about and all the exciting things we have been doing at Nursery. Please check back as the year goes on to see all of the fun exploring, play and learning we get up to!
Spring 2
This Spring we have been learning about ‘Our Town.’ We enjoyed a fun challenge where the children and their families took photos of them around town and we had to guess where they were. We talked about the different places we go to, parks, swimming pools and shops etc…We drew our houses and talked about different types of homes.
Our Power of Reading book was ‘ How it works Digger’ We found what the parts of a digger are called and how they work. We discovered that there are many different types of construction vehicles. We learnt about the job roles on building sites and how they stay safe. We ended the half term with an exciting visit from a digger, we got to sit in it and watched it move about our playground.
We explored outside everyday and started to notice the signs of Spring. We painted flowers and enjoyed warmer sunnier days.
We ended our half term with our RE learning. We heard the Easter story and recreated the hill and cross from it. We tried hot Cross buns and now know why the cross on them is an important symbol for Christians. We made Hot cross buns in playdough and decorated Eggs using loose parts. We ended the week singing with our families in Church to celebrate Easter.
Spring 1
We had a fun and busy half term.
We were learning about ‘people that help us’. We had visits from the fire service, the police, paramedics and a vet who all came to tell us about the important jobs that they do. We used special equipment that they use to keep people and animals safe and healthy. We sat in the fire engine, police car and ambulance. We enjoyed using the hose and heat camera with the fire fighters.
Our ‘power of reading’ book was ‘Our very own dog’. We met Baxter the dog, learnt how to care for a dog from Alex the vet who came to visit. We designed and made dog leads and turned our role play area into a vets practice.
We played in the snow and ice and created lots of wintery ice art and fine motor exploration.
We learnt about Noah’s Ark. We created rainbows and built our own cardboard ark.
Autumn 2
In Autumn 2 we continued learning about ourselves and our bodies. We had a fun afternoon learning about our senses. We used our sense to taste, smell, hear, feel and see different Christmas themed items…chocolate, tinsel, lights, bells and some other items like slime, basil and marshmallows.
We explored the Autumn items that we collected in our Autumn treasure bags. We found conkers, pumpkins, leaves, acorns and even seaweed!
We found out how we can make different colours by mixing some colours together. We experimented with paint like artists and with pipettes and water like scientists.
Towards the end of term it was time to start to celebrate Christmas. We invited our families in and made decorations together. We decorated our room and enjoyed lots of Christmas themed fine motor, maths and play activities. We learnt some new songs and made star costumes. Together we went to the Church to sing our new songs to our families. We even went late in the evening for one service, It was magical fun.
We had a Christmas lunch and a party, Father Christmas came to see us and gave us all a gift. We danced at the school disco and we enjoyed playing Christmas games together in Nursery.
Valentina from Hartbeeps came to see us one day and held a wonderful Christmas themed music and sensory session for us. We had so much fun.
What a busy, glittery and fun half term we had!
Our Fine Motor workshop
We held a fine motor workshop and invited our families. We wanted to show them some of the things we do to strengthen our hands and fingers ready for writing. We squeezed dough, slime, cornflour and pompoms. We hooked loom bands with chopsticks. We placed stickers and buttons on pictures. We threaded beads and punched holes in leaves.
It was great fun. We will be holding a session like this each half term next year also to keep practising our fine motor skills.
Autumn 1
This half term has been all about meeting new friends, settling into nursery and learning about ourselves and each other. We have talked about our families and people who are special to us. We shared photos of our family members and made a display of photos of us and our families for us to see while we are at nursery. We shared our baby photos and discussed how we have changed.
We talked about our bodies, our faces and what we look like. How are we the same and how are we different from each other? We made paper plate faces, loose parts faces and soon we will be making and eating pancake faces. We can name all of our body parts.
We have had our first maths meetings singing number songs. We have started phonics, playing listening games and learning the letter sound ‘s’.
We have noticed that around us on our way to nursery the weather is changing and the trees and plants are too. We have started to talk about Autumn and have made some Autumn craft.
Our power of reading text is ‘A brave bear’ . We have been learning some bear facts, painting bears, talking about being brave and retelling the story in our woodland tray.
We have enjoyed an afterschool PJ and pizza night and next week is our first school disco. It has been a busy but fun start to our school year.
