This half term, the children are learning all about plants within their science lessons. The children have grown their own runner beans and are measuring these weekly to see the progress. The children have also explored sunflowers to investigate the different parts of a plant. This week, they have learnt all about seed dispersal and made their own sycamore seed to explore how these travel.

Each half term, the children are introduced to a new book which their Literacy lessons will be based around. The children slowly read the book as a class and will only hear the full story at the end of the half term. Year 2 have been very excited to hear the next part of the story of ‘The last wolf’ during Literacy this week. In this part of the story, the wolf is introduced and the children have had a chance to see inside of his cosy tree-cave. The children explored adjectives to discuss the wolf’s home and got creative making their own little cosy tree-cave!

Year 2 had an amazing day visiting Billingford Nature walks. In Literacy lessons, the children are currently reading a text all about deforestation and the importance of looking after the environment. During their trip, the children were able to explore wildlife themselves and to really understand the importance of nature. They managed to spot a range of animals including deer, frogs, spiders and birds! The children also used ID charts to help them to identify and name the different trees they could see. The trip was ended perfectly with a sunny afternoon in the park.

Year 2 had a great time during their spelling workshop. They completed lots of fun activities to help them to learn and practice their spelling words. Please remember to use our spelling guide on our website for ideas to practice spelling at home and to make it fun!
