The year 2 children have been very excited to be introduced to their History topic for Spring 2, World War 2. They have started their learning by finding out about The Blitz and what happened during this time. They responded to their learning by creating their own Blitz artwork. Look at the amazing art they achieved!

During Spring 1, year 2 children have slowly read the book ‘The dark’ by Lemony Snicket as part of their Power of Reading lessons. In the story, the main character is frightened of the dark so the year 2 children came up with a solution! They made their very own glow jars to help to see in the dark. Look how great they turned out!
Within Science, year 2 children have been learning about their body and how to look after it. They had the exciting opportunity to observe and hold a real life heart to further their understanding of their body. The children were also very lucky to have a visit from our governor, Dr Collinson, who explained the importance of looking after our hearts.
During Spring 1, year 2 have been learning all about Picasso and responding to his artwork. To begin with, they explored cutting up photos of their own face to create a collage. They then used a mirror to look carefully at their facial features to draw a Picasso inspired piece. Look at some of the amazing artwork created!
The children are very excited to begin their new Power of Reading text. So far, they have only seen the cover of the text and found out it is all to do with the dark. The children have discussed how they feel about the dark and what it makes them think of. They used charcoal to respond to their ideas about the dark.
The year 2 children are getting very excited for Christmas! They have enjoyed making Christmas hats for their school Christmas lunch. They loved decorating day where adults joined us to make decorations for the classroom. The children have also been opening a book advent each day with Christmas stories to read as a class.
Year 2 have been enthusiastic to learn the history around the Great Fire of London this half term. They have found out how the fire started and why it spread so far. To end our topic, the children each created their own Tudor house just like the ones that would have been on Pudding Lane during 1666 when the Great Fire of London started. Mr Brooks helped us to all stay safe whilst setting up a fire for the houses so that we could recreate the events of the Great Fire of London. Thank you to all of the adults who were able to join us for this.
